Introduced in the early twentieth century, the Lincoln cent represents a significant shift in American coinage design. This particular specimen, struck at the Denver Mint in 1911, is preserved in Mint State 63 condition with a distinct brown copper coloration. The Denver issue from this year is a fascinating piece of early twentieth-century minting history, representing a mintage of 12,672,000 pieces. The obverse features the classic profile portrait of Abraham Lincoln, designed by Victor David Brenner. Above the bust, the familiar motto IN GOD WE TRUST is inscribed, flanked by the word LIBERTY to the left and the date 1911 with the D mint mark below. On the reverse, the design showcases two stylized wheat ears framing the central denomination. The inscriptions read ONE CENT and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, completing a design that became an iconic part of daily commerce for decades.
