In 1911, the United States Mint in Denver produced a copper one-cent coin that remains a captivating piece of American numismatic history. This early Lincoln Cent, preserved in Extra Fine condition, showcases the artistry of Victor David Brenner, whose work redefined the look of the nation's lowest-denomination coin. The obverse of the coin displays the familiar profile bust of Abraham Lincoln facing right. Arc over his head are the words IN GOD WE TRUST, while LIBERTY is positioned to his left, and the date 1911 sits to the right. Just below the date, the small D mint mark indicates its origin at the Denver Mint. On the reverse, the coin features two stylized stalks of wheat framing the central inscriptions. The words ONE CENT and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA are prominently displayed in the center, while the traditional Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM arches gracefully across the top rim, completing a design that would define the American penny for decades.
