The 1911 Liberty Head five-cent piece represents a classic era in United States coinage. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin belongs to the beloved Liberty Head series, often referred to simply as the V nickel. Its metallic composition contains no precious metal, yet its historical design makes it a captivating piece of currency to study and admire. On the obverse side, the profile of Liberty is depicted wearing a crown. The year 1911 is clearly struck below her portrait, with the word LIBERTY positioned above. This elegant depiction was created by designer Charles Barber, whose artistic influence defined many American coins of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The reverse of the coin is dominated by a large Roman numeral V, representing its five-cent face value. This central numeral is encircled by a wreath, which is itself surrounded by the legends spelling out the country of origin and the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM.
