For the very first time in the history of the Liberty Head series, which began in 1883, the coin was struck at branch mints rather than solely at the Philadelphia facility. Among these new issues was the strike from the Denver Mint, identified by the small D mint mark on the reverse. With a total mintage of 8,474,000, this issue represents a fascinating transitional moment in American numismatics. The obverse of this copper-nickel coin features the classic profile of Liberty facing left, surrounded by stars with the date 1912 positioned at the bottom. The reverse displays the prominent Roman numeral V, representing the five-cent denomination, encircled by a wreath. The inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" frame the central design. Finding an example of this Denver-minted issue in high grade is a notable occurrence.
