Introduced in the early twentieth century, the Lincoln Cent represents a significant departure in American coinage design. This particular piece, struck in 1912 at the Denver Mint, carries the 'D' mint mark beneath the date on the obverse. The coin is composed of copper and is preserved in Fine condition, showing the honest wear of a coin that likely circulated through daily commerce over a century ago. The obverse features the highly detailed profile bust of Abraham Lincoln, facing right. Above his portrait, the classic national motto 'IN GOD WE TRUST' is inscribed, while the word 'LIBERTY' stands to the left of his image. The year 1912 is clearly visible on the right side, just above the Denver mint mark. On the reverse, the design showcases two stylized stalks of wheat framing the central inscriptions. The denomination 'ONE CENT' and the country of origin 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA' are featured prominently in the center. At the very top rim, the traditional Latin phrase 'E PLURIBUS UNUM' arches over the wheat ears, completing a design that became a staple of American pocket change for decades.
