1912 Liberty Head V Nickel VF
The 1912 Liberty Head five-cent piece represents the final year of regular production for one of America's most recognizable early twentieth-century coins. Struck in a base metal alloy containing no precious metal, this coin has survived in Very Fine condition, showing the clear details of its classic engraving despite more than a century of existence. Designed by Charles Barber, the obverse of the coin features a left-facing portrait of Liberty. She wears a coronet or crown inscribed with the word LIBERTY, with her hair pulled back and surrounded by stars representing the young nation. Below her portrait, the year 1912 is clearly visible. The reverse of the coin is dominated by a large Roman numeral V, which denotes its five-cent value. This central letter is encircled by a decorative wreath. Surrounding the wreath are the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, which translates to "Out of Many, One." At the very bottom, the denomination is spelled out as CENTS.
