Introduced in the early twentieth century, the Lincoln cent represents a significant shift in American coinage design. This particular copper penny, struck in 1912 at the San Francisco Mint, showcases the classic artistry of Victor David Brenner. The coin has survived in Very Fine condition, allowing observers to appreciate the fine details of its century-old imagery. The obverse features the familiar profile bust of Abraham Lincoln, facing right. Above his portrait, the solemn motto IN GOD WE TRUST is inscribed, while the word LIBERTY stands to the left. The date 1912 and the small S mint mark are positioned clearly on the right side. On the reverse, two stylized wheat ears frame the denomination ONE CENT and the country of origin, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The traditional Latin phrase E PLURIBUS UNUM arches gracefully over the top of the design, completing this historic piece of pocket change.
