The 1914 Lincoln cent represents an early chapter in what has become the longest-running active coin design in United States history. Struck in copper at the Denver Mint, this piece carries a distinct 'D' mint mark on its obverse, just below the date. The coin series was originally introduced to mark the 100th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth, bringing a portrait of the president to the nation's circulating coinage. On the obverse, the profile of Abraham Lincoln faces right, accompanied by the inscriptions of national values. The word 'LIBERTY' stands behind his shoulder, while the motto 'IN GOD WE TRUST' arches above. The date 1914 is clearly visible in the lower right field. The reverse side of this coin features the classic 'Wheat Penny' design, framed by two stylized ears of wheat along the left and right borders. Centered between the wheat stalks are the denomination 'ONE CENT' and the country of origin, 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA'. Arching across the top rim is the Latin motto 'E PLURIBUS UNUM', representing the unity of the nation.
