Introduced in the early twentieth century, the Lincoln Cent represents a significant shift in American coinage, placing a historical president on a circulating coin. This particular specimen, struck in 1915 at the San Francisco Mint, carries the 'S' mint mark below its date. It survived decades of circulation, now displaying the honest wear characteristic of a Very Good grade. The obverse features a detailed profile bust of Abraham Lincoln looking toward the right. Above his portrait, the classic motto 'IN GOD WE TRUST' is inscribed, while the word 'LIBERTY' stands behind him. On the reverse, the design showcases two stylized wheat ears curving around the central denomination of 'ONE CENT' and 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA'. This simple yet elegant framing earned the early issues of this series their famous nickname, the Wheat Cent.
