Introduced in 1909 to honor the centennial of Abraham Lincoln's birth, the Lincoln cent has become one of the most enduring and recognized series in United States coinage. This copper one-cent piece, struck in 1916 at the San Francisco Mint, represents an early chapter in a design that is still minted today. The obverse of the coin features the familiar profile of Abraham Lincoln, accompanied by the inscriptions "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "LIBERTY" alongside the 1916 date and the "S" mint mark.
