During the era of the French Third Republic, everyday coinage took on a highly functional yet artistic form. The copper nickel 25 Centimes piece, minted between 1917 and 1937, represents a fascinating design choice from this period, most notably characterized by its central hole. This physical feature not only made the coin easily distinguishable in hand but also influenced the entire layout of its artwork. On the obverse, the letters RF, representing the French Republic, flank the central opening.
