1917 Lincoln Cent XF

0.0000 troy oz 1917 Extra Fine

This copper one cent piece from 1917 offers a fascinating glimpse into early twentieth-century American coinage. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint during a pivotal year in global history, the coin has survived in Extra Fine condition, preserving the fine details of its artistry for over a century. The obverse features a detailed portrait of Abraham Lincoln, facing right, which has become one of the most recognized images in numismatic history. Above his bust, the timeless motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is inscribed, while the word "LIBERTY" stands to his left and the date "1917" is positioned to his right. On the reverse, the coin displays the traditional "Wheat Penny" motif. Two stylized stalks of wheat frame the central inscriptions, which declare the denomination "ONE CENT" and the country of origin, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA". The Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" arches gracefully over the top, completing a design created by the sculptor Victor David Brenner.
