In 1909, the United States Mint introduced a new penny design to mark one hundred years since the birth of Abraham Lincoln. This continuous series became a staple of American pockets, representing a major shift in the nation's coinage. The 1920 edition, struck in copper at the Philadelphia Mint, captures a moment in the early decades of this enduring design. The obverse of this copper coin features the classic profile of the sixteenth American president, accompanied by the familiar inscriptions of LIBERTY and the national motto, IN GOD WE TRUST, alongside the 1920 date. On the reverse, the design is framed by the traditional phrases E PLURIBUS UNUM and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, surrounding the denomination of ONE CENT. This particular specimen survives in an impressive Almost Uncirculated condition, preserving the fine details of a design first conceived over a century ago.
