1923-S Lincoln Cent Fine

0.0000 troy oz 1923 Fine

This 1923 Lincoln Cent represents a classic era of American copper coinage. Minted at the San Francisco facility, as indicated by its distinct 'S' mint mark, this piece has survived in Fine condition. It offers a tangible connection to the early decades of the twentieth century, showcasing the wear and character that comes from decades of potential circulation. The obverse of the coin features the highly recognizable profile bust of Abraham Lincoln, facing right. Above his likeness, the traditional motto reads 'IN GOD WE TRUST', while the word 'LIBERTY' stands to his left, and the date 1923 is positioned to his right. This design, created by Victor Brenner, has become one of the most enduring images in American numismatics. On the reverse, the coin displays two stylized ears of wheat framing the central inscriptions. The denomination 'ONE CENT' and the country 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA' are featured prominently in the center. Arching over the top is the Latin motto 'E PLURIBUS UNUM', completing a design that defined the look of the American penny for fifty years.
