This silver half dollar from 1924 invites us to look back at early colonial history. Struck in 90% fine silver, the coin contains 0.3617 troy ounces of precious metal. It represents a fascinating moment in commemorative coinage, marking the three-hundredth anniversary of the arrival of Huguenot and Walloon settlers in the New World. The front of the coin displays the profiles of two key historical figures, Admiral Coligny and William the Silent. On the reverse side, the design features the Nieuw Nederland, the sailing vessel that carried these early colonists to their new home. The artistic models for this striking piece were prepared by the renowned engraver George T. Morgan. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this specimen survives in Almost Uncirculated condition. It features the classic inscriptions of the United States of America, the denomination, and the traditional motto, "In God We Trust."
