1924 Huguenot-Walloon Tercentenary Half XF
Struck in 1924, this United States silver half dollar commemorates three centuries since the arrival of Huguenot and Walloon settlers. The coin contains 0.3617 troy ounces of silver, with a purity of 90 percent. Designed by the accomplished artist George T. Morgan, who prepared the models, the coin displays a level of detail that remains highly visible in this Extra Fine condition. The front of the coin presents the profiles of two prominent historical figures, Admiral Coligny and William the Silent, side by side. Surrounding their portraits are inscriptions that read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and HUGUENOT HALF DOLLAR, alongside the names of the two leaders. On the reverse, the design depicts the Nieuw Nederland, the historic vessel that carried the colonists. The ship is shown sailing across the water, framed by the legends HUGUENOT WALLOON TERCENTENARY, the dates 1624 to 1924, and the name of the vessel itself, capturing a pivotal maritime journey from three centuries prior.
