1924-S Lincoln Cent VF
The 1924 Lincoln cent struck at the San Francisco Mint represents a fascinating moment in early twentieth-century American coinage. Crafted from copper, this coin has survived in a Very Fine state of preservation, allowing observers to appreciate the finer details of its iconic imagery and lettering that have circulated through history. On the obverse, the coin displays the portrait of Abraham Lincoln looking right. Above his likeness, the traditional motto reads "IN GOD WE TRUST", while the word "LIBERTY" stands to his left. The date 1924 is positioned on the right side, with the small "S" mint mark of the San Francisco facility stamped directly below it. The reverse of the coin features the highly recognizable design of two stylized wheat ears framing the central denomination. The inscriptions clearly state "ONE CENT" and "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", completing a design that defined the look of the American penny for decades. This piece was originally designed by Victor David Brenner.
