In 1934, the United States Mint released a commemorative silver half dollar to mark the 200th anniversary of Daniel Boone's birth. This initial year of issue features a composition of 90 percent silver, containing 0.3617 troy ounces of precious metal. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin represents the beginning of a commemorative series that continued production through 1938. Designed by sculptor Augustus Lukeman, the coin displays a detailed profile portrait of the famed pioneer on its obverse, accompanied by his name. The reverse depicts a dramatic historical scene featuring two standing figures, Boone alongside a Native American.
