In 1934, the United States Mint released a commemorative silver half dollar to mark one hundred years of Texas independence. This inaugural year of issue launched a series that would continue production from 1934 to 1938. Struck in 90% silver, each coin contains 0.3617 troy ounces of precious metal and showcases a highly detailed, complex artistic layout. The obverse side presents a powerful eagle positioned in front of a large, five-pointed star, representing the Lone Star State. On the reverse, the design shifts to a symbolic narrative featuring a kneeling, winged figure of Victory. Flanking this central figure are portrait busts of two pivotal figures in Texas history, Stephen Austin and General Sam Houston, alongside a depiction of the Alamo. This particular coin has been preserved in Extra Fine condition. It stands as a fascinating example of early twentieth-century American commemorative coinage, capturing a major regional milestone through the intricate sculpture of Pompeo Coppini.
