In 1936, the United States Mint struck a special silver half dollar to mark the centennial of Bridgeport, Connecticut as an incorporated city. This coin, struck in 90% silver, contains 0.3617 troy ounces of precious metal and represents a fascinating moment in twentieth-century American coinage with a total mintage of just 25,015 pieces. The obverse of the coin features a detailed portrait of the legendary showman P.T. Barnum, who was one of Bridgeport's most famous residents and once served as its mayor.
