1936-D Texas Independence Centennial Half Dollar MS-66 PCGS

0.3617 troy oz .900 1936 MS-66 (PCGS)

In 1936, the Denver Mint produced a limited run of silver half dollars to commemorate the Texas Centennial, specifically honoring the Battle of the Alamo and the broader Texas Revolution. This particular coin, containing 0.3617 ounces of silver, has been certified in an exceptional Mint State 66 condition. With a mintage of just 9,039 pieces, it represents a highly detailed and scarce example of early twentieth-century American commemorative coinage. The coin features a complex and symbolic design created by sculptor Pompeo Coppini. On the obverse, a prominent five-pointed star stands boldly behind a perched eagle. The reverse is even more intricate, displaying a kneeling, winged figure representing Victory. Flanking this central figure are two portrait medallions depicting key historical figures of the Texas struggle, General Sam Houston and Stephen Austin. Legible inscriptions on the coin highlight its commemorative purpose and national origin. The reverse features the words "THE ALAMO" alongside "TEXAS" and the dual dates "1836-1936" to mark the centennial. Traditional mottos such as "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM" are also integrated into the design, alongside the "HALF DOLLAR" denomination.
