Struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1936, this silver half dollar commemorates the centennial of Texas independence. The coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.3617 troy ounces of precious metal. With a remarkably low mintage of only 9,055 pieces, this issue stands out as a scarce and intriguing artifact of American commemorative coinage. The obverse design presents a bold five-pointed star positioned behind a perched eagle, surrounded by inscriptions including the word LIBERTY and the dual dates of 1836 to 1936. The San Francisco mint mark is also visible on this side. On the reverse, a winged figure of Victory kneels, flanked by circular medallions containing the portraits of two pivotal figures in Texas history, Stephen Austin and General Sam Houston. The reverse also displays the denomination HALF DOLLAR and the year of manufacture, 1936, alongside traditional mottos.
