1941 Lincoln Cent Proof

In 1941, the Philadelphia Mint produced a limited run of proof-quality Lincoln Cents, offering a highly polished glimpse into mid-century American coinage. Unlike standard circulating pennies, these proof versions were struck with extra care, resulting in sharp details and reflective surfaces that highlight the classic artwork of Victor David Brenner. This particular issue is composed of a traditional alloy containing 95 percent copper, with the remaining 5 percent made of tin and zinc. The obverse of the coin features the familiar profile bust of Abraham Lincoln, facing right. Above his portrait, the solemn motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is inscribed, while "LIBERTY" stands to his left and the date "1941" is positioned to his right. This clean, dignified portrait has defined the face of the lowest-denomination US coin for decades. On the reverse, the design showcases two stylized wheat ears framing the central inscriptions. The words "ONE CENT" and "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" dominate the center, topped by the Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM". Brenner's tiny initials are also nested into the reverse design. With a mintage of just 21,100 pieces, this proof coin remains a fascinating artifact from the eve of America's entry into World War II.
