This particular coin represents the classic composition before wartime alloy changes were fully implemented. Produced at the Philadelphia Mint without a mint mark, this specimen was struck as a brilliant proof, a finish reserved for a very limited run of just 29,600 pieces. Designed by Felix O. Schlag, the obverse of the coin features a dignified, left-facing portrait of Thomas Jefferson. Surrounding his profile are the familiar inscriptions of American liberty and faith, reading "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "LIBERTY", alongside the date of 1942.
