During a pivotal moment in the mid-twentieth century, the United States Mint produced this striking copper cent. Today, it survives in a brilliant uncirculated state, retaining the vibrant red coloration that copper coins display when they are freshly minted and shielded from the elements. This particular piece represents a classic era of American pocket change, preserved in exceptional condition. The obverse features a detailed portrait of Abraham Lincoln facing right, a design created by Victor David Brenner. Above the president's likeness, the reassuring words "IN GOD WE TRUST" are inscribed, while "LIBERTY" stands to the left and the date "1944" is positioned to the right. The simplicity of the portrait brings a quiet dignity to this everyday denomination. On the reverse, the coin features a minimalist and iconic layout. Two stylized wheat ears frame the central inscriptions, which declare the denomination as "ONE CENT" above "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA."
