During the height of the mid-century era, the United States altered the composition of its five-cent piece. This 1944 Jefferson Nickel represents that historic shift, containing a composition of 35 percent silver along with copper. Minted in Philadelphia, this particular specimen carries a prominent "P" mint mark above the dome of Monticello on the reverse, a distinctive feature of these wartime silver-alloy issues. Out of a total mintage of 119,150,000, very few survive in such an extraordinary state of preservation. This specimen has been certified in Mint State 67 (MS-67), indicating an incredibly sharp strike and nearly flawless surfaces that have escaped the typical wear of circulation. The obverse features the classic profile of Thomas Jefferson accompanied by the inscriptions "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST" alongside the 1944 date. The reverse displays Jefferson's historic home, Monticello, surrounded by the traditional mottos "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" along with the denomination "FIVE CENTS".
