During a pivotal moment in American history, the composition of the five-cent piece underwent a temporary transformation. This 1945 specimen from the Philadelphia Mint contains 35 percent silver, a metallic blend unique to the wartime era. Certified in an exceptional Mint State 66 condition, the coin offers a remarkably clear window into mid-century American coinage. The front of the coin features a left-facing portrait of Thomas Jefferson. Surrounding his likeness are the familiar inscriptions of faith and freedom, including the words of liberty and the 1945 production date. On the reverse side, the design showcases Monticello, Jefferson's famous Virginia estate.
