This 1947 five-cent piece represents a classic era of United States coinage, preserved in brilliant uncirculated condition. The coin features a clean, sharp strike from the Philadelphia Mint, which did not utilize a mint mark on the nickel during this period. Because it has never entered general circulation, the original luster and fine details of the design remain remarkably intact. Felix O. Schlag designed the imagery for this series. The obverse features a profile portrait of the third United States President, Thomas Jefferson, looking toward the left. Surrounding his likeness are the traditional national mottos of trust and liberty, alongside the 1947 production year. On the reverse, the design showcases Monticello, Jefferson's famous Virginia estate. The grand plantation house is depicted with architectural precision, centered above the denomination and the country of origin. The Latin motto signifying unity is positioned at the very top of the reverse, completing a design that remains a familiar yet historically rich part of American pocket change.
