In 1947, the San Francisco Mint produced a classic piece of American pocket change that remains a favorite for observers of mid-century coinage. This five-cent piece, preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, showcases the clean lines and balanced proportions characteristic of the era's circulating currency. The obverse of the coin features a profile portrait of Thomas Jefferson, facing left. Accompanying the portrait are the traditional national mottos and the year of production. On the reverse, the design displays a detailed depiction of Monticello, Jefferson's famous Virginia estate. Below the estate, the words five cents and the country of origin are clearly struck, alongside the distinctive S mint mark indicating its origin at the San Francisco facility.
