The year 1948 brought a classic mid-century issue of the five-cent piece from the San Francisco Mint. This particular specimen survives in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, preserving the crisp details of a design that became a staple of American pocket change. On the obverse, the profile of Thomas Jefferson looks toward the left, accompanied by the familiar national mottos of trust and liberty. Turning the coin over reveals Monticello, the famous Virginia estate of the third president.
