1954 Lincoln Cent Proof (Red)

0.0000 troy oz 1954 Proof

In 1954, the Philadelphia Mint produced a limited number of proof coins, showcasing the iconic Lincoln cent design with a level of detail and polish far exceeding standard circulating coinage. Struck in copper, these proof specimens are celebrated for their sharp details and deep, reflective surfaces, which highlight the artistry of a design that had already been a staple of American pocket change for decades. The obverse features the familiar profile of Abraham Lincoln, facing right. Above his likeness, the words "IN GOD WE TRUST" are inscribed, with the word "LIBERTY" positioned to his left and the date "1954" to his right. This portrait, originally created by Victor David Brenner, remains one of the most recognized images in numismatic history. On the reverse, the coin displays the traditional "Wheat Penny" motif. Two stylized ears of wheat frame the central inscriptions, which state the denomination "ONE CENT" and the country of origin, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA". The Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" arches over the top, completing a classic design that represents a fascinating era of mid-century American minting.
