During the mid-century era, the Philadelphia mint produced a limited run of proof Jefferson nickels, totaling 378,200 pieces. Because they were struck at the Philadelphia facility, these five-cent coins do not bear a mint mark. This particular 1955 specimen stands out due to its exceptional preservation, achieving a high proof grade of PF-68 with a coveted Cameo designation that highlights the sharp contrast between the frosted design elements and the mirrored fields. The obverse of the coin features the classic profile of Thomas Jefferson, accompanied by the inscriptions of the year 1955, the word LIBERTY, and the national motto IN GOD WE TRUST.
