1957 Jefferson Nickel PF-68 NGC

0.0000 troy oz 1957 PF-68 (NGC)

During the mid-century era, the United States Mint produced proof coins of exceptional quality, intended for those who appreciate the finest details of the coining process. This 1957 Jefferson nickel is an outstanding survivor of that period, having earned a superb grading of Proof 68 (PF-68) for its nearly flawless surfaces and sharp strike. The obverse of this five-cent piece displays a profile portrait of the nation's third president, Thomas Jefferson. Surrounding his likeness are the inscriptions "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST", alongside the 1957 year of production. The design captures a clean, dignified representation of the early American leader. On the reverse, the coin features a detailed depiction of Monticello, Jefferson's famous Virginia estate. The legendary home is framed by the traditional motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" above and the country of origin, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", below. The denomination is clearly marked as "FIVE CENTS" directly beneath the image of the historic mansion, completing a classic design created by Felix O. Schlag.
