The 1957 Lincoln cent stands as a classic representative of mid-century American coinage. Struck in copper at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin is preserved in brilliant uncirculated condition, retaining its original red luster. The design represents a transitional era in United States coinage, just before the reverse imagery was changed to mark the Lincoln sesquicentennial. On the obverse, a detailed portrait of Abraham Lincoln faces right, accompanied by the inscriptions of national values and the year of production. The words "IN GOD WE TRUST" arch over the president, while "LIBERTY" and the date "1957" flank his likeness. This portrait was originally created by Victor David Brenner. The reverse side features the traditional "wheat back" design, which was the hallmark of the one-cent piece for fifty years. Two stylized stalks of wheat frame the central inscriptions, which declare the denomination as "ONE CENT" and identify the nation as the "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA". Above this, the traditional Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" crowns the design, celebrating national unity.
