1959-D Jefferson Nickel BU
This five-cent piece from 1959 represents a classic era of mid-century American coinage. Struck at the Denver Mint, this specimen remains in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, preserving the sharp details of its original engraving just as it looked when it first entered circulation over six decades ago. The obverse of the coin displays a left-facing portrait of Thomas Jefferson, designed by Felix O. Schlag. Alongside the presidential profile, the traditional inscriptions "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "LIBERTY" are clearly legible, accompanied by the 1959 year of production. On the reverse, Schlag's detailed depiction of Monticello, Jefferson's Virginia estate, takes center stage. The historic home is framed by the classic American mottos and designations, including "E PLURIBUS UNUM" above the dome, and "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" alongside "FIVE CENTS" below the building's foundation.
