1960-D Lincoln Cent Small Date BU (Red)

0.0000 troy oz 1960 Brilliant Unc

In 1960, the United States Mint in Denver produced a notable variation of the classic penny, recognized by observers for the specific proportions of its date. This copper coin, preserved in brilliant uncirculated condition with its original red luster, represents a fascinating moment in mid-century American coinage. The piece is composed of a traditional alloy containing 95 percent copper, with the remaining 5 percent made of tin and zinc. On the obverse, a right-facing portrait of Abraham Lincoln dominates the field. This side bears the familiar inscriptions "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "LIBERTY", alongside the date 1960 and the "D" mint mark, indicating its origin at the Denver Mint. The portrait was originally created by Victor David Brenner. The reverse features the Lincoln Memorial, a design by Frank Gasparro that was minted continuously from 1959 to 2008. This side displays the denomination "ONE CENT" and the national motto "E-PLURIBUS UNUM", framed by the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA". The architectural detail of the monument provides a striking contrast to the portrait on the obverse, making this particular year a compelling study for those interested in the evolution of American pocket change.
