1966 Jefferson Nickel SMS MS-67 NGC

0.0000 troy oz 1966 MS-67 (NGC)

In 1966, the United States Mint produced Special Mint Sets, creating coins with a sharper, more reflective finish than standard circulating coinage. This five cent piece, featuring the classic Jefferson design, has been certified at the high grade of Mint State 67 (MS-67), indicating an extraordinary level of preservation with minimal imperfections from the minting process. The obverse of the coin presents a profile portrait of Thomas Jefferson, designed by Felix O. Schlag. Encircling the left and right rims are the familiar inscriptions of national identity and liberty, including the mottoes "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "LIBERTY", alongside the date. On the reverse, Schlag's detailed depiction of Monticello, Jefferson's Virginia estate, takes center stage. The classical architecture of the home is accompanied by the traditional Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" above the dome, while the denomination "FIVE CENTS" and the country name "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" are struck clearly below the building.
