1966 Jefferson Nickel SMS MS-68 NGC

0.0000 troy oz 1966 MS-68 (NGC)

During the mid 1960s, the United States Mint produced Special Mint Sets, creating coins with a distinct finish that stands apart from standard circulating coinage. This 1966 Jefferson Nickel is a stellar survivor from that era, originating from a mintage of 2,260,000 pieces struck at the Philadelphia Mint. Because it was minted in Philadelphia, the coin carries no mint mark, a traditional characteristic of the facility's output during this period. This five cent piece has achieved an extraordinary grade of MS-68, indicating a nearly flawless state of preservation that is highly unusual for coins of this age. The obverse features the classic portrait of Thomas Jefferson alongside the motto IN GOD WE TRUST and the date 1966. On the reverse, Jefferson's historic home is depicted with the inscription MONTICELLO, accompanied by the traditional legends E PLURIBUS UNUM and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, along with the denomination FIVE CENTS.
