The 1970 Jefferson nickel struck at the Denver Mint offers a crisp look at one of America's most enduring twentieth-century coin designs. This five-cent piece, preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, highlights the detailed artistry that has graced the pocket change of generations. On the obverse, a profile portrait of Thomas Jefferson faces left. Surrounding his likeness are the familiar national mottos and declarations, including the trust in a higher power and the word of freedom, alongside the 1970 date and the 'D' mint mark indicating its origin in Denver. The initials of the designer, Felix O. Schlag, are also subtly integrated near the base of the portrait. The reverse of the coin features a detailed depiction of Monticello, Jefferson's beloved neoclassical plantation home in Virginia. The building is centered on the coin, flanked by the traditional Latin phrase meaning 'out of many, one' above, and the denomination and country of origin below, creating a balanced and historic composition.
