The 1971 Jefferson nickel represents a classic era of modern United States coinage, showcasing a design that has been familiar to generations of Americans. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this five-cent piece is preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, allowing the finer details of its artwork to remain sharp and clear for observers to study. On the obverse, the coin displays a profile portrait of Thomas Jefferson, the nation's third president. Accompanying his likeness are the traditional inscriptions "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "LIBERTY", alongside the 1971 date. The design was originally created by Felix O. Schlag, capturing a dignified representation of the statesman. The reverse side of the coin features Monticello, the famous neoclassical plantation home that Jefferson designed for himself in Virginia. The building is rendered with architectural precision, complete with its prominent central dome and portico. Below the image of the estate, the inscriptions "MONTICELLO", "FIVE CENTS", and "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" are clearly visible, topped by the Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM".
