The 1972 Jefferson nickel, struck at the Denver Mint, offers a crisp look at one of America's most enduring twentieth-century coin designs. This particular specimen survives in brilliant uncirculated condition, preserving the sharp details of the engraving just as it appeared when it first left the coining press over five decades ago. On the obverse, the coin features a profile portrait of Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States. Accompanying his likeness are the familiar national mottos, including the inscription of trust and the word liberty alongside the 1972 date and the D mint mark representing the Denver facility. The reverse of the coin showcases Monticello, the famous Virginia estate designed by Jefferson himself. The building is rendered in fine detail, centered above its name. The traditional Latin motto meaning out of many, one is positioned at the top, while the denomination of five cents and the country of origin wrap around the lower half of the design.
