Struck at the Denver Mint, the 1972-D Lincoln Cent represents a classic era of United States pocket change. This particular specimen survives in brilliant uncirculated condition, retaining the vibrant red luster characteristic of freshly minted copper. Composed of 95 percent copper alongside a 5 percent blend of tin and zinc, this coin belongs to the traditional alloy era before the composition shifted to zinc-core planchets. The obverse features the iconic right-facing profile of Abraham Lincoln, a design originally created by Victor David Brenner. Clearly legible inscriptions surround the president, including the national motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" above his head, the word "LIBERTY" to his left, and the date 1972 paired with the "D" mint mark to his right. On the reverse, the Lincoln Memorial design by Frank Gasparro is showcased. This architectural depiction served as the reverse face of the penny from 1959 to 2008. The design is framed by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "ONE CENT", with the traditional Latin motto "E-PLURIBUS UNUM" positioned directly above the monument.
