1973-D Jefferson Nickel BU

0.0000 troy oz 1973 Brilliant Unc

The 1973 Jefferson nickel represents a classic era of United States modern coinage. Struck at the Denver Mint, this five-cent piece is preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, showcasing the original details of its mid twentieth century design just as it looked when it first left the coining press. On the obverse, the coin displays a profile portrait of Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States. This side also bears the familiar national mottoes of faith and freedom, with "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "LIBERTY" clearly legible alongside the 1973 date and the "D" mint mark representing the Denver facility. The design is the work of artist Felix O. Schlag. Turning the coin over reveals Monticello, the famous neoclassical Virginia estate designed by Jefferson himself. The reverse design captures the grand facade of the mansion, accompanied by the traditional Latin phrase "E PLURIBUS UNUM" above the dome, and the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "FIVE CENTS" below the building.
