The 1974 Jefferson nickel struck at the Denver Mint offers a classic example of twentieth-century American coinage. This five-cent piece, preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, highlights the enduring design created by Felix O. Schlag. The copper-nickel composition presents a crisp, clean canvas for the mid-century engraving. On the obverse, a profile portrait of Thomas Jefferson faces left. This side is framed by the traditional American mottos of trust and liberty alongside the 1974 issue date. The Denver mintmark is also present on this side, indicating its origin at the Colorado facility. The reverse side of the coin features a detailed depiction of Monticello, the famous plantation home that Jefferson designed himself. Below the grand neoclassical estate, the inscriptions declare the denomination of five cents and identify the nation of origin, the United States of America, topped by the Latin motto celebrating unity.
