In 1976, the San Francisco Mint produced a striking proof edition of the classic Lincoln Cent. Struck with meticulous care, this copper coin consists of a traditional alloy containing 95 percent copper alongside a 5 percent mixture of tin and zinc. The proof finish highlights the sharp details of the engraving, showcasing a deep, rich red coloration that is highly prized by enthusiasts of the series. The obverse features the iconic right-facing portrait of Abraham Lincoln, a design created by Victor David Brenner. Arcing above the president is the reassuring motto IN GOD WE TRUST, while the word LIBERTY stands to his left and the date 1976 is positioned to the right. Just below the date, the S mint mark indicates its origin at the San Francisco facility.
