1977-D Jefferson Nickel BU
The 1977 Jefferson nickel struck at the Denver Mint offers a clean look at a classic mid-twentieth-century American coin design. This particular specimen survives in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, preserving the sharp details of the engraving just as it appeared when it first left the coining press. Composed of a metal alloy containing 75 percent nickel and 25 percent copper, the coin represents the enduring utility of the United States five-cent denomination. On the obverse, a profile portrait of Thomas Jefferson faces left, accompanied by the national motto, IN GOD WE TRUST. The reverse features a detailed depiction of Monticello, Jefferson's famous Virginia estate. Below the home, the inscriptions read MONTICELLO, FIVE CENTS, and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, while the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM is positioned above the dome. The Denver origin is indicated by the D mint mark on the coin.
