The 1978 Denver Mint Eisenhower dollar represents the final chapter of a classic American tradition, earning it the nickname of the last among the large dollar coins. This brilliant uncirculated issue features a clad composition, constructed with outer layers of copper mixed with nickel that are bonded to a core of pure copper. On the obverse, the profile of Dwight D. Eisenhower faces left. The design, crafted by Frank Gasparro, is accompanied by the legible inscriptions LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the year 1978. A small D mint mark denotes its origin at the Denver facility. The reverse of the coin features a dramatic scene of an eagle carrying an olive branch as it descends toward the lunar surface, a design celebrating the historic moon landing. Surrounding this celestial scene are the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the denomination ONE DOLLAR.
