1980-S Jefferson Nickel Gem Proof

0.0000 troy oz 1980 Gem Proof

The 1980 Jefferson nickel struck at the San Francisco Mint represents a beautiful example of modern United States coinage. Produced as a Gem Proof, this five-cent piece is crafted with polished dies to create a sharp, mirror-like finish that highlights the subtle details of its artwork. On the obverse, the coin displays a classic portrait of Thomas Jefferson. Accompanying the likeness of the third American president are the familiar inscriptions "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "LIBERTY", alongside the 1980 date and the "S" mint mark indicating its origin in San Francisco. The reverse side of the coin features a detailed depiction of Monticello, the historic Virginia estate of Thomas Jefferson. The building is framed by the traditional motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" above and the dual inscriptions "FIVE CENTS" and "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" below, completing a design created by Felix O. Schlag.
