The obverse of the coin features a profile portrait of the pioneering social reformer Susan B. Anthony, designed by Frank Gasparro. Positioned behind her neck is the "S" mint mark, indicating its San Francisco origin. The inscriptions "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the year "1980" frame the portrait, celebrating a monumental figure in American history on a circulating dollar coin. On the reverse, Gasparro adapted the famous Apollo 11 insignia to create a dramatic celestial scene. It depicts an American eagle landing on the surface of the moon while clutching an olive branch in its talons, symbolizing peace.
