1981-D Jefferson Nickel BU
Struck at the Denver Mint in 1981, this five-cent piece represents a classic era of modern United States coinage. The coin is preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, allowing observers to appreciate the original luster and sharp details of Felix O. Schlag's enduring design just as it looked when it left the minting facility over four decades ago. The obverse features a profile portrait of Thomas Jefferson, the nation's third president. Accompanying his likeness are the inscriptions of the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST", and the word "LIBERTY", alongside the 1981 year of production and the "D" mint mark representing Denver. Turning the coin over reveals Monticello, the historic Virginia estate of Jefferson. The reverse carefully depicts the neoclassical dome and portico of the home. Surrounding this central image are the traditional inscriptions "E PLURIBUS UNUM", "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", and the denomination, "FIVE CENTS", below the building's name.
